HAMPSHIRE WOMEN 2ND XI V SACA WOMEN - MATCH REPORT (30 June 2026)

MATCH RESULT: HAMPSHIRE WOMEN 2ND XI WON BY 149 RUNS

Today, SACA Women played their first ever fifty-over encounter, and travelled down to Southampton to take on Hampshire Women’s Second Eleven on the Utilita Bowl Nursery Ground.

An uncontested toss saw the hosts batting first, and they opened up with Scotland international, Pippa Sproul, and the experienced Megan Sturge, currently on loan to Hampshire from Kent, and the pair asserted themselves from the get go on the young SACA bowling attack.

A first wicket partnership of 151 was eventually broken when Sproul mis-timed a lofted off drive to Anjali Ketan at mid-off to depart for 64, with Nayma Sheikh claiming the wicket in the 23rd over of the innings.

The old adage of ‘one brings two’ rang true again, as Ketan then picked up the wicket of Patil for a duck, before Sturge and Nancy Harman settled in and added 79 for the third wicket to put the hosts in control. The partnership was only broken when Sturge retired having reached a well-earned century, scored off 98 balls, with Hampshire on 231 for 3.

Harman went on to make a useful 47 off 46, and she was well supported with knocks of 36* off 26 from Mollie Adams, 19* off 15 from Megan Bishop, and 19 off 25 from Eliza Bristowe, as the hosts posted a hefty total of 324 for 6 in their 50 overs.

It could have been worse for SACA had the spin of Zaynah Rehman not stemmed the flow of runs late in the innings, picking up three crucial wickets to slow the hosts’ charge down. Her figures of 3 for 37 from 7 overs saw her stand out as the pick of the SACA bowlers, with Anusha Chauhan picking up the other wicket.

In reply, SACA lost both openers early, as Fiza Asif Iqbal fell for 7 and Rhia Sedha for 11, before Riva Pindoria, in at number three, also fell for a duck, as SACA fell to 45 for 3.

At number four for SACA was Sanya Khurana, fresh from playing for the Netherlands in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, and her maiden SACA outing couldn’t have gone better, as she batted with both purpose and precision to carve out a brilliant innings.

SACA were unable to build any meaningful run chase however, as regular wickets fell throughout the reply, although despite losing partners with some regularity Khurana showed her class and just kept going.

Having lost Iqraa Hussain for 12, Imaan Effendi for 1, Amara Imran for 5, Chauhan for 2, and Ketan for 1, SACA were struggling on 144 for 8, with Khurana the only thorn in the Hampshire side.

Having faced 76 balls she completed a quite brilliant hundred, in an innings that included 13 fours and 1 six, although having reached the milestone, off the very next ball she picked out the fielder at square leg to depart for exactly 100, with the SACA score now on 169 for 9.

Reyman and Kashish Choudhary had added a further six runs to the total when Kashish chipped one to mid-off, to depart from 3 and bring the chase to a close, leaving Reyman not out on 8 and SACA all out for 175.

The margin of defeat was 149 runs, and it was a learning experience for the young SACA side, who can take plenty from this fixture into their forthcoming fifty over matches against the Blaze and Durham over the next three weeks.
