SACA HOLDS REMITLY TRIALS AT WANSTEAD CRICKET CLUB

Earlier this week, SACA were at Wanstead Cricket Club for a day of trials, where two pre-selected trialist sides were invited to take on SACA Second XI sides, giving the trialists the opportunity to put their skills to the test in competitive match situations against SACA players, in the hope of impressing the SACA coaching and management staff watching on.

SACA’s main sponsor, Remitly, were also in attendance, offering help, advice and guidance to spectators wishing to benefit from their international money transfer expertise.

There were two T20 matches scheduled across the day, with the interval in between the games focussed on providing young cricket lovers from the local area with an opportunity to take part in cricket activities, with a fast-bowling speed-gun challenge, a power-hitting challenge, and a Kwik cricket game all laid on for youngsters aged between 7 and 14.

The day began with the opening trial match, in which SACA’s side came out on top, thanks largely to the batting performances of Jay Madan, who hit 62 from 43 deliveries, and Mehrab Khan, who chipped in with 31 off 31 deliveries. Their efforts saw SACA post a total of 163 for 6 from their 20 overs.

Grabbing his opportunity to shine was leg-spinning trialist Mohammed Ibrahim, who finished with figures of 4 for 31 from his four overs.

SACA’s total proved too much for the trialists to chase down, with them ultimately falling 15 runs short in their chase, posting 148 for 8 in reply, with Ranjit Singh top scoring with a useful 43 from 25 balls.

Game two saw the trialists fare better, securing a victory, thanks primarily to Bimal Kamal, who shone with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 65 from just 42 deliveries as he helped his side post a total of 160 for 1 in their 20 overs.

In reply, SACA took the opportunity to give their batters a hit, retiring out both Haaris Usman when he’d hit 36 from 28 balls and Rahul Tangirala when he’d scored 38 from 26 balls. Mehrab Khan’s unbeaten 22 from 19 deliveries took SACA close, before the trialists came out on top, with SACA falling 7 runs short in the chase.
