YORKSHIRE v SACA (50 OVER) MATCH REPORT - 17 JULY 2026

RESULT: YORKSHIRE WON BY 3 WICKETS

Having already beaten first-class opponents Surrey and Gloucestershire this week, SACA’s Men’s squad travelled to Leeds looking to make it three wins on the bounce, as they took on Yorkshire at Weetwood Sports Ground.

Alas, against a very strong Yorkshire side, featuring a number of experienced first eleven professionals, SACA fell short, as the hosts came out on top to secure a three-wicket victory.

It was another good run out for SACA against a strong county opponent however, with plenty of good individual performances to note.

MATCH REPORT

Losing the toss and being asked to bat first, SACA openers Sinel Gunarathne and Daniyal Khan made a solid start, putting on 51 runs for the first wicket before Gunarathne clipped Jack White to backward square leg to depart for 22 off 29 deliveries.

Rahul Tangirala joined Khan at the crease and the pair built on that solid start, adding a further 70 runs for the second wicket before Tangirala lofted a drive to extra cover off Firbank when on 38, scored off 52 balls, with SACA in a good position on 121 for 2 in the 25^th over.

Khan was next to go, falling one short of his half-century, with his 49 coming off 66 balls, well caught at point off the bowling of Ishfaq, with the score having moved on to 134 for 3.

A fourth wicket partnership of 45 between Ajay Khunti and Gennaro Reddy took the SACA score on to 179 before Khunti was bowled for 13 by the experienced Dan Moriarty.

Reddy was next to fall, lbw to Firbank, although not before he’d hit a fine 54 from 45 balls, as the SACA score was pushed along to 198 for 5 in the 39^th over.

With number six Sultan playing the anchor role, he lost partners Mo Rizvi for 6, Rahul Herath for 10, and Riaz for 2, before he himself succumbed to the experience of Ben Coad, bowled for a patient 33, with the SACA score now on 253 for 9 in the penultimate over of the innings.

The final wicket came in the last over, with Hassan Mughal dismissed by Bepey for a duck, as SACA posted 254 in their innings, which whilst looking under par, at least gave them a total to defend.

In reply, the Yorkshire openers looked to go on the attack early, scoring at a good rate in the opening overs before Vagadia was brilliantly run out by a direct hit from Mughal, departing for 10 with the hosts on 38 for 1 in the fifth over.

His fellow opener Smith fell just four overs later as Riaz got one through the gate to clean bowl him for 25, with Yorkshire on 46 for 2.

Yorkshire number three, Harry Duke, then came in and played an innings that ultimately swung things in his side’s favour. 

He put on 56 with Bean for the third wicket before Mo Rizvi struck to dismiss Bean for 32, with Khunti taking the catch at deep backward square, before then adding another 30 with Akhtar, before Khunti turned one past the bat of Akhtar to clatter into off his stump, with the Yorkshire number five out for 8, with the score on 132 for 4 at the end of the 25^th over.

Duke was playing a fine role, bringing up his fifty off 56 balls, and he’d added a further 45 runs with Thompson before the latter chipped Mughal to Tangirala at mid-on to depart for 10, with Yorkshire now on 177 for 5 in the 31^st over.

Dukes’ fine knock ended soon after, on 84, scored off 80 balls, as he was bowled by Mughal, and with Yorkshire now on 184 for 6, the game was very much back in the balance.

Sadly for SACA, Coad and Moriarty had other ideas, and quickly quashed any hopes SACA had of securing their third win of the week, as the pair took the attack to the bowlers and added a quickfire 68 for the seventh wicket, before Moriarty was bowled by Khan for 37, although with the score now on 252 for 7, they’d got their side to the brink of victory.

That came just two balls later, as Yorkshire got over the line, seven wickets down, to secure a three-wicket win, with Coad finishing unbeaten on 28*.

It was not to be from SACA, who fought hard on the day, and again, they can take plenty of positives out of another good performance against a strong first-class county opponent.
