SACA’s Men’s squad were in fifty-over action for the first time this season today, and they headed to New Malden’s LSE Sports Ground to take on Surrey.

An outstanding display from SACA saw Surrey completely dominated with both bat and ball, with SACA securing victory a little after 3.15pm, needing only 21.1 overs to chase down the target Surrey had earlier set them.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, hosts Surrey got off to the worst possible start, losing opener Blake for 4 in just the third over, as Hisham Khan trapped him in front with the score on just 9.

A partnership of 68 for Surrey got things back on track, before the experienced Surrey first teamer Ryan Patel was bowled by Sai Boorghu for 37.

At the other end, Nikhil Gorantla, formerly a SACA player and graduate into the professional game, was going well, showing all the determination and class that earned him a contract with the Oval based county.

Whilst Gorantla was resolute in his defence, it was hard to say the same for the rest, as wickets crumbled around him, with Dodson (3), Kennedy (0), Floros (0), Ealham (3) and Taylor (1), all falling for single figure scores, as Surrey collapsed to 99 for 7 in the 21^st over.

Gorantla, having now equalled Patel’s top score of 37 fell next, with De Mestre (0) and Simpson (13) following him back to the Pavilion soon after, as their side were dismissed within 32 overs for just 126.

Pick of the bowlers for SACA was undoubtedly Mo Rizvi, with his spin accounting for five Surrey wickets, finishing with amazing figures of 5 for 34 from 10 overs.

His efforts slightly overshadowed those of Boorghu, who bowled with both pace and aggression, finishing with a fine return of 3 for 21 from 5 overs.

In reply, SACA were in no mood to hang around, and a first wicket partnership of 41, scored in just 6.1 overs, came to an end when Dylan Rawal sent one straight up in the air to depart for 20, although his efforts, opening with Daniyal Khan, had made a massive dent in the chase in no time at all, with just 86 runs now needed for victory.

Hisham Khan came in at three, albeit briefly, as he was bowled by Gillespie for a duck.

Daniyal Khan was joined by Savin Perera, and the pair looked in no trouble at all, as they rapidly eroded the runs required total, scoring freely at more than 5 runs an over.

In just the 22^nd over of their chase, Khan fittingly smashed spinner Ealham over the square leg rope for a maximum, to take SACA to a well-earned victory by the margin of 8 wickets.

Khan finished unbeaten on 58*, scored at a run a ball, whilst Perera’s 38* came off 43 balls.

It was a comprehensive performance and victory for SACA who were more than deserving of the win, outplaying Surrey in all departments, and with the game finishing some three hours ahead of the scheduled close, the old adage of a short game being a good game couldn’t have been truer!
