SACA COACH DOMINIC OSTLER JOINS CRICKET IRELAND WOMEN AS CONSULTANT BATTING COACH

Today, we are delighted to announce that long-standing SACA Batting Coach, Dominic Ostler, has been named by Cricket Ireland as their new Women’s Consultant Batting Coach.

Ostler, who has been an important part of the SACA coaching team for the last two years, will team up with the Irish Women’s side ahead of the forthcoming Women’s T20 World Cup this year, and will be with the side throughout the upcoming tournament which gets underway in mid-June.

Following a playing career in which he made over 200 first-class appearances for Warwickshire, Ostler has gained extensive coaching experience in the Women’s game, working with the Warwickshire Women’s team, and in the Women's Hundred with Birmingham Phoenix.

Upon completion of Ireland’s involvement in the ICC tournament, Ostler will return to SACA and resume his Batting Coach role with the squad.

Speaking of Ostler securing a role with Ireland Women, SACA Founder and Managing Director, Tom Brown, commented:

“We are really pleased for Dom and this is nothing less than he deserves.

“The quality and experience he brings to our coaching set-up here at SACA can never be underestimated, and it comes as no surprise to us that he has made the step up to coaching on the international stage.

“It’s a hugely exciting year for the Women’s game, and for Dom to be right in the thick of it with Ireland Women at the T20 World Cup, is going to be a really memorable and special experience for him.

“All at SACA wish him luck in the new role and we hope his addition to the Ireland Women’s coaching group brings them much success in the tournament.”

Dominic Ostler himself added:

“I am excited to be joining up with Cricket Ireland in a consultancy coaching role and am really looking forward to what will be an exciting few months ahead with the Women’s squad.

“To be able to work with the squad in the build up to the T20 World Cup campaign and then throughout the tournament will be a real honour and I’m looking forward to getting into the role.

“My thanks go to all at Cricket Ireland for giving me this opportunity and of course to all at SACA too for supporting my decision to join up with Cricket Ireland. I owe SACA an enormous amount and am grateful to all at the Academy that working with them has provided me with this terrific opportunity. I look forward to joining up with the SACA squad later this year and to finishing the season with them.”

Cricket Ireland High Performance Director, Graeme West, said:

“We are delighted that Dom has agreed to join the Ireland Women’s coaching ranks for the summer. He not only brings a wealth of experience from his first-class cricket career at Warwickshire but has developed into a highly-respected coach after retirement – and has been doing sterling work at the South Asian Cricket Academy.

“Coming in as a batting consultant, Dom will be present at all women’s international fixtures this summer, coach at selected training sessions during April–May and maintain remote oversight of domestic cricket.

“Dom has worked with [head coach] Lloyd Tennant previously, so we look forward to a smooth transition into the role.”
