MOHAMMED RIZVI SIGNS FOR LEICESTERSHIRE

SACA is delighted to announce that Mohammed Rizvi has signed professional terms with Leicestershire County Cricket Club and will represent the Foxes in the forthcoming Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Rizvi, a right-handed leg spinning all-rounder was one of the original cohort of players to join SACA when it was established in 2022, and in August last year became the 17th player to graduate from SACA into the professional ranks, when signing for Kent on a Metro Bank One-Day Cup contact.

With Kent he made six List-A appearances, before then also going on to represent them in the County Championship, making his maiden professional first-class appearance for Kent in September against Lancashire in Canterbury. Upon completion of his contract with Kent, Rizvi returned to the SACA ranks at the end of last season.

On signing for Leicestershire, Rizvi becomes the second SACA player to re-sign professional terms with a county side, following in the footsteps of Yadvinder Singh, who joined Leicestershire earlier this year having previously also signed as a professional with Worcestershire.

This year, away from SACA, he has represented both North Middlesex Cricket Club in the Middlesex Premier League and Cambridgeshire in the Minor Counties Trophy and T20 competitions.

With SACA Rizvi has been as consistent as ever this season, regularly picking up wickets in all three formats of the game, and just last week showed his class when picking up a match-winning five-wicket haul against Surrey in SACA’s opening fifty-over clash of the summer.

On Rizvi his contract with Leicestershire, SACA Founder and MD, Tom Brown, commented:

“We are thrilled that Mo has earned another opportunity to prove himself in the professional game.

Mo has worked so hard since joining the SACA programme, and his determination, work ethic and resilience are a real credit to him. He’s never given up in his belief that he can succeed as a professional, and this opportunity with Leicestershire presents him with another fantastic platform to do just that.

“Everyone at SACA wishes him every success in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup with Leicestershire and we know that he’ll step up and relish the challenge.”

On signing for Leicestershire, Rizvi himself said:

I’m incredibly proud and grateful to be joining Leicestershire. This opportunity means a great deal to me, especially knowing the hard work, sacrifice and perseverance it’s taken to get back to this point.

“I’m thankful for the faith the club has shown in me and excited to prove myself again. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to the team’s success.

“I’d also like to thank everyone at SACA and my closer friends/family for providing me with the platform and support to develop as both a player and a person.”
