SACA’s Men’s squad got back to winning ways today in the fifty-over format of the game, securing a comprehensive victory over Glamorgan at Panteg Cricket Club in Griffithstown.

In the six fifty-over matches SACA have played in the height of the summer this season, they’ve beaten first-class county opponents on no fewer than four occasions, with today’s win over Glamorgan following impressive victories over Surrey, Northamptonshire and Gloucestershire in the last three weeks.

As for today - an unbeaten hundred from SACA’s Aum Patel stole all the headlines, with the left-hander hitting seven maximums in a quite brilliant innings.

MATCH REPORT

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, SACA made a shaky start, losing opener Dylan Rawal cheaply in just the second over for 6.

This brought the in-form Daniyal Khan to the crease with Sinel Gunarathne, and the pair added an impressive 100 for the second wicket before the latter chipped one to mid-on, out for 67 from 52 deliveries with the score on 115 for 2.

Khan was next to go, retiring not out, having hit 45* from 53 balls, leaving Patel and Rahul Tangirala at the crease. The pair added 76 in good time before Tangirala top-edged a pull to mid-wicket to depart from 43, which came off just 34 balls, with his wicket falling on 202 for 3.

Patel was still going, and he and Omar Akram then stuck on a further 118 for the fourth wicket, taking the score to 320 for 4 when Akram mis-timed one to mid-on to depart for a quickfire 72 from 40 deliveries.

Patel and Rishabh Udadhyay saw things through to the close of the innings, finishing on 114* and 7* respectively, with Patel’s superb knock coming off 105 balls, with eight fours and seven sixes, with SACA posting a massive total of 375 for 4 in their fifty overs.

In reply, a 34-run opening stand was broken by seamer Eesa Nadeem in the sixth over, before he struck again four overs later, in a blistering opening spell that saw Glamorgan in early trouble on 60 for 2.

Things got worse for the home side, as Shareeq Sheikh first and then Upadhyay delivered decisive blows in the 11^th and 19^th overs to reduce Glamorgan to 105 for 4, and faced with an ever-increasing required run rate, all the hosts’ batters could do was go on the attack and throw caution to the wind.

Sadly, it was a tactic that just didn’t pay off, as first Sheikh grabbed his second wicket of the innings in the 22^nd over, followed by Thilan Walallawita getting his first just five overs later, to reduce Glamorgan to 146 for 6.

Neither sheikh nor Walallawita were done yet, as their spin inflicted further damage on Glamorgan’s line-up, with the pair both adding a further brace of wickets to their haul, as Glamorgan were bowled out in the 36^th over for 186, leaving SACA celebrating a mammoth win, by the margin of 189 runs.

Sheikh finished as the pick of the SACA bowlers with impressive figures of 4 for 48 from 8.3 overs, whilst Walallawita’s figures of 3 for 35 from 9 showed what a class act he really is.

It was a thoroughly comprehensive performance from SACA with both bat and ball, and the side will take a well-earned rest now, before taking part in the 2026 SACA Remitly Festival next week.

Day one kicks off at Wanstead Cricket Club on Wednesday 12^th August, followed by the final of the Festival the very next day, at Wormsley Cricket Ground on Thursday 13^th August.
