RESULT: Durham Women won by 5 wickets (DLS method)

Today, SACA Women took on Durham Women in a friendly encounter at Sedgefield Cricket Club, with the hosts coming away with a 5-wicket win via the DLS method in a match reduced to forty overs per side.

MATCH REPORT

Batting first, the SACA batters found the going tough from the get go, with openers Maryam Faisal (9) and Fiza Asif Iqbal (1) both falling early for single figures scores.

Riva Pindoria, batting at three, got in and started to patiently rebuild the innings, although she lost partners Sanya Khurana for 16 and Iqraa Hussein for 5, before she too succumbed, having hit a top score of 29, which came off 48 deliveries, as SACA stumbled to 72 for 5 in the 20^th over.

With batters struggling to get in, further wicket fell with frustrating regularity, as Amarah Imran (3), Rhia Sedha (12), and Nayma Sheikh all departed within the next few overs, leaving SACA on 101 for 8 in the 28^th over of the innings.

The final two wickets of Imaan Effendi (5) and Anusha Chauhan (14) added a further 22 runs before the last wicket fell, with 6 overs of the innings remaining and Kashish Choudhary the not out batter on 3*.

Embracing the friendly nature of the fixture, Durham allowed SACA to bat on, and with Choudhary retiring, Faisal and Asif Iqbal batted again, adding an unbeaten 32 to the score, with SACA finishing their innings on 155 from 40 overs, with Faisal not out on 15& and Asif Iqbal not out on 17*.

In reply, and set a DLS target of 156 for victory, Durham’s openers showed no mercy, adding 137 for the first wicket in 22.3 overs, before Sheikh picked up the wicket of Robson, clean bowling the opener for 61.

Robson’s opening partner, Marlow, and number three Whiting took Durham past their victory target, one wicket down, in the 26^th over of the innings, to seal the victory, although in the same spirit as SACA were allowed to bat on earlier, Durham were also given their full forty overs and were allowed to continue their innings.

Marlow and Whiting took the score to 180 before Sedha dismissed the opener, for a fine top scoring knock of 86, before the SACA seamer struck again just four balls later to dismiss Glen for a duck and reduce Durham to 180 for 3 in the 30^th over.

The next ten overs of Durham’s reply yielded SACA two further wickets, with Sedha grabbing a second and Khurana a first, as Durham finished their innings and the match having hit 256, exactly 100 more than their required target.

It was a comprehensive win for Durham and a tough outing for SACA, who aren’t in action again until the 13^th August, when they take on Hampshire Women at the SACA Remitly Festival at Wormsley Cricket Ground.
